Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:81222

Linkage analysis was performed on 944 (C57BL/6 x DBA/2)F2 animals and 18 BXD recombinant in bred strains to identify QTLs associated with femoral cross-sectional area (FCSA). 115 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 15 cm were used. Parental strain C57BL/6 exhibits approximately 50% greater FCSA compared to parental strain DBA/2.

The following sex-independent QTLs Fcsa1, Fsca2, Fcsa3, and Fcsa4 were mapped in the (C57BL/6 x DBA/2)F2 intercross. Fcsa1 has a QTL range spanning 20 cM - 55 cM on mouse Chromosome 6 with LOD=5.5 at D6Mit263 (37 cM). Fcsa2 has a QTL range spanning 30 cM - 45 cM on mouse Chromosome 8 with LOD=7 at D8Mit45 (40 cM). Fsca3 has a QTL range spanning 22 cM - 65 cM on mouse Chromosome 10 with LOD=4.5 at D10Mit162 (59 cM).Fcsa4 has a QTL range spanning 17 cM - 31 cM on mouse Chromosome X with LOD=13 at DXMit144 (20 cM).

The following sex-dependent QTLs Fcsa5, Fcsa6, and Fcsa7 were mapped in the (C57BL/6 x DBA/2)F2 intercross. Fcsa5 is a male-specific QTL and spans 10 cM - 38 cM on mouse Chromosome 2 with LOD=5.9 at D2Mit81 (14 cM). Fcsa6 is a female-specific QTL and spans 29 cM - 47 cM on mouse Chromosome 7 with LOD=4.3 at D7Mit297. Fcsa7 is a female-specific QTL and spans 0 cM - 12 cM on mouse Chromosome 12 with LOD=4.3at D12Mit219 (6 cM).

In all cases C57BL/6-derived alleles confer increased FCSA.

Fcsa2, Fcsa3, Fcsa5, Fcsa6, and Fsca7 were also detected in the BXD RI strains.
