Notes |
Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:82664Genome scan was performed on 283 (C57BL/6ByJ x NZB/BlNJ)F2 animals using 67 microsatellite markers to identify QTLs associated with right-left paw laterality. Parental strain NZB/BlNJ is more ambidextrous in both the forepaw and hindpaw compared to parental strain C57BL/6ByJ. A significant locus was identified on mouse Chromosome 4 and named Ltry (laterality). This locus is linked to forepaw laterality at 48 cM (LOD=5.6 at D4Mit205a), and is linked to hindpaw laterality at 49.7 cM (LOD=7.2 at D4Mit12).Ltry is also linked to plasma lutenizing hormone concentration (PLHC) at 48.8 cM with LOD=4.4. The QTL interval of Ltry spans approximately 30 cM - 63 cM. Low forepaw and hindpaw laterality values and high PLHC values are associated with the NZB/BlNJ-derived allele. A possible candidate gene for Ltry is the leptin receptor, Lepr. This gene maps to 46.7 cM on mouse Chromosome 4 and has been implicated in the gonadal steroid cycle. |
