description
Allele Type:    QTL
Inheritance:    Not Specified
Notes
This is a resistance allele (J:43978). Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV) is a normal enteric pathogen in wild and laboratory mice which causes no clinical symptoms unless introduced into the central nervous system (CNS). In the CNS, however, a chronic low-grade infection is established which causes an immune response leading to CNS demyelination. Genetic analysis between susceptible SJL/J and resistant C57BL/6J mice indicated a major role of the H2-D1 region. Between the susceptible SJL/J and resistant BALB/c mice, there does not appear to be an effect of the major histocompatibility complex, but at least two non-H2 loci are involved (J:8573).

Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:43978

The segregation of genes that may contribute to the susceptibility of Theilers murine encephalomyelitis in mice were analyzed in (BALB/cByJ x DBA/2J)F1 x BALB/cByJ and DBA/2J backcross progeny using microsatellites from Chromosomes 3, 6 and 17. Significant association of Tmevd1 with mouse Chromosome 6 markers D6Mit36 and D6Mit149 at 40.4 cM was observed.
