Notes |
Alcp2 appears to exhibit paternal imprinting. Increased alcohol consumption is observed when homozygous female animals are derived from C57BL/6J fathers.
Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:33277Backcross progeny from crosses between (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J)F1 females x C57BL/6J males (N = 262) and C57BL/6J females x (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J)F1 males (N = 73) were analyzed for alcohol consumption. The difference in alcohol consumption between male and female backcross progeny is significant at a P value of 0.00004, therefore sexes were analyzed separately using chi-square analysis to find quantitative trait loci (QTL). A region of mouse Chromsome 11 bounded proximally by D11Mit219 and distally by D11Mit195was associated with alcohol consumption in female mice and given the symbol Alcp2. The genetic distances between the informative microsatellite loci were as follows: D11Mit140 - 13 cM - D11Mit219 - 3 cM - D11Mit40 - 5 cM - D11Mit195 - 12 cM - D11Mit199. In addition it was observed that the Alcp2 phenotype is significantly expressed only in female backcross progeny derived from a paternal C57BL/6J. Female animals having a C57BL/6J father and are homozygous for C57BL/6J-derived alleles at Alcp2 exhibit increased alcohol consumption. |
