Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:54405217 (BP2 x BALB/c)F2 animals were typed for 180 microsatellite markers to identify QTLs associated with asthma phenotypes, such as bronchial airway responsiveness and eosinophil infiltration. Biozzi BP2 mice exhibit symptoms similar to human allergic asthma following induction with ovalbumin whereas inbred strain BALB/c is resistant to asthma-like symptoms. Loci significantly associated with bronchial airway responsiveness are Asthm1 (asthma) mapping to mouse chromosome 10 with LOD = 3.8 at 44 cM and Asthm2 mapping to mouse chromosome 11 with LOD = 3.65 at 69 cM. BALB/c-derived alleles contribute to increased airway responsiveness at Asthm1 while BP2-derived alleles contribute to increased airway responsiveness at Asthm2. Suggestive loci linked to asthmaphenotypes map to mouse chromosome 9 (LOD = 2.5 at 18 cM), mouse chromosome 11 (LOD = 3.4 at 7 cM), and mouse chromosome 17 (LOD = 2.1 at 10 cM). BALB/c-derived alleles contribute to increased airway responsiveness at the chromosome 9 and chromosome 17 loci, and BP2-derived alleles contribute to increased eosinophil counts at the chromosome 11 locus. The chromosome 17 locus is near Bhr3, a QTL for bronchial hyperresponsiveness (DeSanctis, J:29231). |
