Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:6398423 AXB and BXA (A=A/J; B=C57BL/6J) recombinant inbred (RI) strains were mapped for QTLs associated with protein kinase C activity and protein kinase C content in the lungs, both of which are traits associated with susceptibility to asthma and adenocarcinoma of the lung. Progenitor strain A/J exhibits low protein kinase C activity and protein kinase C content in the lungs of adult mice, and is susceptible to both spontaneous and experimentally induced lung adenomas. In contrast, progenitor strain C57BL/6Jexhibits higher protein kinase C activity and protein kinase C content than A/J, and is resistant to spontaneous and experimentally induced lung adenomas. A locus associated with protein kinase C activity mapped to approximately 88 cM on mouse Chromosome 3 with a peak LRS score of 15.4 at D3Mit19. This locus, Pkcal (protein kinase C activity in lungs), is also associated with protein kinase C content with a suggestive LRS score of 6.2. D3Mit94 (at approximately 22 cM) and D3Mit141 (at approximately 45.2 cM) on mouse Chromosome 3 were suggestively associated with protein kinase C activity. A locus associated with protein kinase C content mapped to approximately 68 cM on mouse Chromosome 11 with a peak LRS score of 12.5 at D11Mit333. This locus, Pkccl (protein kinase C content in lungs), maps near the protein kinase C, alpha gene (Prkca) and is also associated with protein kinase C activity with a suggestive LRS score of 5.1. |
