Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:88353

Linkage analysis was performed on 25 BXD (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J) recombinant inbred strains to identify QTLs associated with novel food preference. Animals were given an initial exposure to plain-, cinnamon-, or cocoa-flavored food and assessed for preference for novel or non-novel flavored food 14 days after the initial exposure. Parental strain C57BL/6J exhibits a preference for novel foods compared to parental strain DBA/2J.

A QTL named Fdpref (food preference) mapped to 73 cM on mouse Chromosome 8 nearD8Mit156 (LRS=17.21). This locus explains 45% of the genetic variance. No obvious candidate genes have been found in this region.

Suggestive QTLs mapped to 53 cM (D1Mit50), 58.7 cM (D1Mit11), and 80 cM (D1Mit200) on mouse Chromosome 1, 33 cM (D3Mit241) on mouse Chromosome 3, and to 64 cM on mouse Chromosome 6 (D6Mit301). At the D1Mit11 locus DBA/2J-derived alleles are associated with increased preference for novel-flavored food.
