Mutation details: Crossing Cd79atm5Cgn mice with deleter mice expressing cre in the germline created this allele in which floxed exon 4 was excised, thereby eliminating the membrane-proximal part of the cytoplasmic tail and disrupting the ITAM motif. Flow cytometry revealed severely impaired B cell development, with bone marrow numbers of immature and mature B cells being about 10 and 100 times lower than in wild-type controls.
