Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:39049

Linkage analysis was performed on male animals from 24 LSXSS recombinant inbred (RI) strains to identify QTLs associated with brain neurotensin receptor densities and hypnotic and hypothermic response to alcohol. 120 polymorphic markers at an average marker spacing of 15 cM were used.

The following loci are reported as real QTLs as they have been confirmed in an (LS x SS)F2 intercross population. All other QTLs are regarded as provisional and require confirmation.

A locus associated with high-density neurotensin receptor (NTRh) density and sleep time after alcohol administration mapped to 58 cM on mouse Chromosome 1 near D1Mit45 (P=0.09). This locus is named Alcrsp1 (alcohol response 1). A potential candidate gene found in this region is Cacna1s.

A locus associated with NTRh, sleep time, and blood ethanol concentration at regaining righting response (BECRR) mapped to 80 cM on mouse Chromosome 2 near D2Mit21 (P=0.005). This locus is named Alcrsp2 (alcohol response 2). Potential candidate genes found in this region are Ntsr1, Pdyn, and Avp.

A locus associated with neurotensin immunoreactivity and hypothermia in response to alcohol mapped to 43 cM on mouse Chromosome 4 near D4Mit205 (P=0.02). This locus is named Alcrsp3 (alcohol response 3). A potential candidate gene found in this region is Jun.

A locus associated with neurotensin immunoreactivity in the ventral midbrain mapped to 66 cM on mouse Chromosome 5 near D5Mit24 (P=0.01). This locus is named Nrtim1 (neurotensin immunoreactivity 1).

A locusassociated with neurotensin immunoreactivity and sleep time after alcohol administration mapped to 55 cM on mouse Chromosome 9 near D9Mit12 (P=0.0006). This locus is named Alcrsp4 (alcohol response 4). Potential candidate genes found in this region are Chrna3 and Gnai2.

A locus associated with hypothermia in response to alcohol mapped to 19 cM on mouse Chromosome 11 near the Gabra1 gene. (P=0.03). This locus is named Alcrsp5 (alcohol response 5).

A locus associated with neurotensin immunoreactivity in the ventral midbrain mapped to 29 cM on mouse Chromosome 13 near D13Mit23 (P=0.03). This locus is named Nrtim2 (neurotensin immunoreactivity 2).

A locus associated with hypothermia in response to alcohol mapped to 6 cM on mouse Chromosome 15 near D15Mit12(P=0.05). This locus is named Alcrsp6 (alcohol response 6).
