Transgene
description
Transgene Type:    Transgenic (Inserted expressed sequence)
Mutation:    Insertion

Tg(PF4MER)6Kra expresses 1 gene

Mutation detailsThe transgene is a 3.9-kb fragment which contains the rat platelet factor 4 (Pf4) promoter followed by exons 2 and 3 of human myc fused to the human estrogen receptor (MER), followed by a 442-base pair region of the HGH poly(A) tail starting from the stop codon of the HGH gene. Two copies of the transgene integrated in this line. Expression of the transgene was detected in bone marrow megakaryocytes. (J:35507)

Notes
Mice homozygous for this transgene on an FVB/N background are viable and fertile. Expression of the transgene is exclusively in platelets and megakaryocytes in female carrier mice or in male carrier mice given injections of estrogen. Megakaryopoiesis is increased and they exhibit essential thrombocythemia. This strain may serve as a model for a myeloproliferative disorder resembling essential thrombocythemia.
