Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:66470Mice congenic for the Scon2 locus on mouse Chromosome 4 were constructed by repeated backcrossing of donor strain BXD RI-5 (B=C57BL/6J; D=DBA/2J) to background strain DBA/2J and selecting for C57BL/6J-derived alleles in the region surrounding Scon2 at each generation. The congenic region presumably contains the saccharin preference gene, Tas1r3 (a.k.a. Sac), as well as other nearby markers. Parental strain BXD RI-5 exhibits high intake of sucrose solution compared to parental strain DBA/2J. Animals for this study reached the fourth backcross generation. This study looked at the association between sucrose intake and alcohol preference. Animals with conditioned taste aversion to sucrose solution also exhibited significantly decreased alcohol intake. Authors speculate that gene(s) in the congenic region exert tight linkage or a pleitrophic effect on sucrose and alcohol preference. 04.14.2015 - Curators Note: Scon2 was originally mapped in J:42179 in 1997 using an (C57BL/6ByJ x 129/J)F2 cross which differs from the cross used here. We consider the current study a separate mapping experiment and have named this QTL Scon5 . |
