Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:93070

Linkage analysis was performed on 275 animals from a (NMRI8/Fbn x DBA/2OlaHsd)F2 intercross to identify QTLs associated with post-weaning body weight and body composition. Parental strain NMRI8/Fbn is 2.5 times heavier than parental strain DBA/OlaHsd, and also exhibits increased muscle and organ weight at 6 weeks of age and 4.6 times the amount of reproductive fat of DBA/2OlaHsd. 92 microsatellite markers were used for the genome scan.

An interval on mouse Chromosome 2 from 45 cM - 50 cM showed linkage to body weight at all ages. These QTLs were designated Bwnd2wk1 (50 cM), Bwnd4wk2 (48 cM), Bwnd5wk2 (50 cM), and Bwnd6wk2 (47 cM). NMRI8/Fbn-derived alleles confer increased body weight with a dominant mode of inheritance at these loci. A second interval at the distal end of chromosome 2 around 109 cM showed linkage to body weight at 2 and 5 weeks of age. These QTLs were designated Bwnd2wk2 and Bwnd5wk3. (Suggestive linkage to body weight at 4 weeks was also observed.) NMRI8/Fbn-derived alleles confer increased body weight with a recessive mode of inheritance at Bwnd2wk2 and Bwnd5wk3.
