Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:93070

Linkage analysis was performed on 275 animals from a (NMRI8/Fbn x DBA/2OlaHsd)F2 intercross to identify QTLs associated with post-weaning body weight and body composition. Parental strain NMRI8/Fbn is 2.5 times heavier than parental strain DBA/OlaHsd, and also exhibits increased muscle and organ weight at 6 weeks of age and 4.6 times the amount of reproductive fat of DBA/2OlaHsd. 92 microsatellite markers were used for the genome scan.

An interval on mouse Chromosome 8 from 57 cM - 66 cM showed linkage to early body weight at 2, 3, and 4 weeks of age. These QTLs were designated Bwnd2wk5 (57 cM), Bwnd3wk1 (66 cM), and Bwnd4wk4 (66 cM). NMRI8/Fbn-derived alleles confer increased body weight with a dominant or additive mode of inheritance at these loci.
