Notes |
Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:93070Linkage analysis was performed on 275 animals from a (NMRI8/Fbn x DBA/2OlaHsd)F2 intercross to identify QTLs associated with post-weaning body weight and body composition. Parental strain NMRI8/Fbn is 2.5 times heavier than parental strain DBA/OlaHsd, and also exhibits increased muscle and organ weight at 6 weeks of age and 4.6 times the amount of reproductive fat of DBA/2OlaHsd. 92 microsatellite markers were used for the genome scan. An interval on mouse Chromosome 14 from 12 cM - 23 cM showed linkageto body weight at all ages. These QTLs were designated Bwnd3wk2 (23 cM), Bwnd4wk6 (12 cM), Bwnd5wk6 (13 cM), and Bwnd6wk5 (15 cM). (Suggestive linkage to body weight at 2 weeks of age was also observed.) NMRI8/Fbn-derived alleles confer decreased body weight with a dominant mode of inheritance at these loci. A second interval at the distal end of chromosome 14 from 49 cM - 52 cM showed linkage to body weight at 2 and 5 weeks of age. These QTLs were designated Bwnd2wk7 (52 cM), Bwnd4wk7 (49 cM), and Bwnd5wk7 (50 cM). (Suggestive linkage to body weight at 6 weeks of age was also observed.) NMRI8/Fbn-derived alleles confer increased body weight with a dominant mode of inheritance at these loci. |
