Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:94352

487 animals from a heterogeneous stock designated UM-HET3 were analyzed for bone (femur) geometry traits. UM-HET3 is derived from a cross between (BALB/cJ x C57BL/6J)F1 x (C3H/HeJ x DBA/2J)F1. 99 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 15 cM - 20 cM were used in the genome scan. Nine geometric traits were evaluated for each femur.

Linkage to cortical thickness, shape factor, and standard deviation of outer fiber length (StdOFL) mapped to 59 cM on mouse Chromosome 1 near D1Nds2. This locus is designated Fmgty1 (femur geometry 1). C3H/HeJ-derived alleles confer increased cortical thickness compared to DBA/2J-derived alleles. BALB/cJ- and DBA/2J-derived alleles confer increased StdOFL compared to C57BL/6J- and C3H/HeJ-derived alleles. C57BL/6J- and C3H/HeJ-derived alleles confer increased shape factor compared to BALB/cJ- and DBA/2J-derived alleles.
