Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:94352

487 animals from a heterogeneous stock designated UM-HET3 were analyzed for bone (femur) geometry traits. UM-HET3 is derived from a cross between (BALB/cJ x C57BL/6J)F1 x (C3H/HeJ x DBA/2J)F1. 99 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 15 cM - 20 cM were used in the genome scan. Nine geometric traits were evaluated for each femur.

Linkage to maximum outer fiber length (MaxOFL) mapped to 68 cM on mouse Chromosome 5 near D5Mit95. This locus is designated Fmgty4. C57BL/6J-derived alleles confer increased MaxOFL compared to BALB/cJ-derived alleles.
