Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:94352

487 animals from a heterogeneous stock designated UM-HET3 were analyzed for bone (femur) geometry traits. UM-HET3 is derived from a cross between (BALB/cJ x C57BL/6J)F1 x (C3H/HeJ x DBA/2J)F1. 99 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 15 cM - 20 cM were used in the genome scan. Nine geometric traits were evaluated for each femur.

Linkage to standard deviation of outer fiber length (StdOFL) and shape factor (SF) mapped to 63 cM on mouse Chromosome 14 near D14Mit170. This locus is designated Fmgty11. DBA/2J-derived alleles confer increased StdOFL compared to C3H/HeJ-derived alleles, and C3H/HeJ-derived alleles confer increased SF compared to DBA/2J-derived alleles.
