Notes |
Increased renal fat pad weight on a high fat diet.
Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:94605Linkage analysis was performed on 16 LGXSM (LG=LG/J; SM=SM/J) recombinant inbred (RI) lines to identify QTLs associated with obesity and diabetes traits. Parental strain LG/J exhibits a larger body size compared to parental strain SM/J and these two strains also differ in obesity and diabetes related traits in response to dietary fat. 506 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 2 to 3 cM were used in the genome scan. 39 loci were mapped but only those reaching genomewide significance are reportedhere. On mouse Chromosome 8, an interval between D8Mit312 (45 cM) and D8Mit56 (73 cM) shows linkage to renal fat pad weight on a high fat diet. This locus is named Obsty2 (obesity 2). SM/J-derived alleles confer increased renal fat pad weight at this locus. Obsty2 also shows suggestive linkage (on a high fat diet) to total fat pad weight, reproductive and inguinal fat pad weights, leptin levels, and body weight at necropsy. Obsty2 also shows suggestive locus to mesenteric fat pad weight on a CHOW diet.Potential candidate genes mapping near Obsty2 are Trhr2 and Mc1r (68 cM). |
