Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:94605

Linkage analysis was performed on 16 LGXSM (LG=LG/J; SM=SM/J) recombinant inbred (RI) lines to identify QTLs associated with obesity and diabetes traits. Parental strain LG/J exhibits a larger body size compared to parental strain SM/J and these two strains also differ in obesity and diabetes related traits in response to dietary fat. 506 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 2 to 3 cM were used in the genome scan. 39 loci were mapped but only those reaching genomewide significance are reportedhere.

On mouse Chromosome 14, an interval between D14Nds1 (2.5 cM) and D14Mit266 (60 cM) shows linkage to kidney weight. This locus is named Kdnw2 (kidney weight 2). LG/J-derived alleles confer increased kidney weight at this locus. Kdnw2 also shows suggestive linkage to free fatty acids on a high fat diet. However, SM/J-derived alleles confer increased free fatty acids.
