Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:94605

Linkage analysis was performed on 16 LGXSM (LG=LG/J; SM=SM/J) recombinant inbred (RI) lines to identify QTLs associated with obesity and diabetes traits. Parental strain LG/J exhibits a larger body size compared to parental strain SM/J and these two strains also differ in obesity and diabetes related traits in response to dietary fat. 506 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 2 to 3 cM were used in the genome scan. 39 loci were mapped but only those reaching genomewide significance are reportedhere.

On mouse Chromosome 16, an interval between D16Mit28 (13.22 cM) and D16Mit152 (57 cM) shows linkage to body weight at necropsy in female animals. This locus is named Bwtn1 (body weight at necropsy 1). SM/J-derived alleles confer increased body weight at this locus.
