Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:94605Linkage analysis was performed on 16 LGXSM (LG=LG/J; SM=SM/J) recombinant inbred (RI) lines to identify QTLs associated with obesity and diabetes traits. Parental strain LG/J exhibits a larger body size compared to parental strain SM/J and these two strains also differ in obesity and diabetes related traits in response to dietary fat. 506 microsatellite markers at an average spacing of 2 to 3 cM were used in the genome scan. 39 loci were mapped but only those reaching genomewide significance are reportedhere. On mouse Chromosome 17, an interval between D17Mit19 (3 cM) and D17Mit115 (24.2 cM) shows linkage to kidney weight, adult body growth between 10-20 weeks of age, and cholesterol levels. This locus is named Kdnw3 (kidney weight 3). LG/J-derived alleles confer increased kidney weight, body growth, and cholesterol at Kdnw3. |
