Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:87794

More than 1000 animals from an (M16i x L6)F2 intercross were typed for 63 polymorphic markers over 19 autosomes to identify QTLs associated with growth traits. Body weight was measured at 21, 42, and 70 days of age. Tail length was measured at 70 days asan indicator of skeletal growth. Parental strain M16i exhibits high weight gain between 21 and 42 days of age while parental strain L6 exhibits low weight gain. LOD=3.3 was used as the cutoff for statistically significant linkage.

W6q15 maps to 36.4 cMon mouse Chromosome 4 between D4Mit1 and D4Mit27 (LOD=3.6). The 1 LOD confidence interval of W6q15 spans 18.4 cM - 42.5 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W6q15 confer increased body weight at 6 weeks of age with additive inheritance. This locus explains 2.4% of the variance.

An interval on mouse Chromosome 4 between D4Mit27 and D4Mit64 contains QTLs W6q13 (LOD=4.8), W10q10 (LOD=8.3), and W3q17 (LOD=3.6). The 1 LOD confidence interval of W6q13 spans 43.7 cM - 64 cM and peaks at 55.3 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W6q13 confer increased body weight at 6 weeks of age with dominant or additive inheritance. This locus explains 2.4% of the variance. The 1 LOD confidence interval for W10q10 spans 48.l cM - 61.8 cM and peaks at 55.3 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W10q10 confer increased body weight at 10 weeks of age with recessive or additive inheritance. This locus explains 4.8% of the variance. W3q17 peaks at 63.7 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W3q17 confer increased body weight at 3 weeks of age with dominant or additiveinheritance. This locus explains 1.6% of the variance.
