Body weight was measured at 21, 42, and 70 days of age. Tail length was measured at 70 days asan indicator of skeletal growth. Parental strain M16i exhibits high weight gain between 21 and 42 days of age while parental strain L6 exhibits low weight gain. LOD=3.3 was used as the cutoff for statistically significant linkage. Egaq4 maps to an interval on mouse Chromosome 13 between D13Mit27 and D13Mit53. Egaq4 peaks at 35 cM (LOD=3.7) and the QTL interval spans 28.1 cM - 46.8 cM. M16i-derived alleles confer increased early growth with a recessive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 2.3% of the variance.An interval on mouse Chromosome 13 between D13Mit21 and D13Mit53 contains QTLs W6q16 (LOD=3.6), Tailq3 (LOD=7.1), Tailaq3 (LOD=4.1), and W10q17 (LOD=4.2). W6q16 peaks at 49.5 cM and the QTL interval spans 37.1 cM - 60.6 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W6q16 confer increased body weight at 6 weeks of age with a recessive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 1.9% of the variance. Tailq3 peaks at 54.1 cM and M16i-derived alleles confer increased tail length with an additive or dominant mode of inheritance. This locus explains 3.4% of the variance. Tailaq3 peaks at 54.1 and M16i-derived alleles confer increased tail length adjusted for body weight at 6 weeks of age with an additive or dominant mode of inheritance. This locus explains 2.2% of the variance. W10q17 peaks at 55.4 cM and M16i-derived alleles confer increased body weight at 10 weeks of age with an additive or dominant mode of inheritance. This locus explains 1% of the variance. |
