Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:87794

More than 1000 animals from an (M16i x L6)F2 intercross were typed for 63 polymorphic markers over 19 autosomes to identify QTLs associated with growth traits. Body weight was measured at 21, 42, and 70 days of age. Tail length was measured at 70 days asan indicator of skeletal growth. Parental strain M16i exhibits high weight gain between 21 and 42 days of age while parental strain L6 exhibits low weight gain. LOD=3.3 was used as the cutoff for statistically significant linkage.

On mouse Chromosome 17, several QTLs mapped near D17Mit124. These QTLs are W6q11 (LOD=6.3), W10q12 (LOD=6.9), Egq5 (LOD=7.7), and Egaq2 (LOD=5.5). W6q11 peaks at 19.3 cM and M16i-derived alleles confer increased body weight at 6 weeks of age with a recessive or additive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 1.9% of the variance. W10q12 peaks at 19.2 cM and M16i-derived alleles confer increased body weight at 10 weeks of age with a dominant mode of inheritance. This locus explains 2.1% of the variance. Egq5 peaks at 19.2 cMand M16i-derived alleles confer increased early growth with a recessive or additive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 2.4% of the variance. Egaq2 peaks at 21.8 cM and M16i-derived alleles confer increased early growth adjusted for 6 week body weight with a recessive or additive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 1.8% of the variance.

An interval between D17Mit10 and D17Mit76 contains QTLs W10q15 (LOD=4.8), Egaq3 (LOD=3.9), W6q12 (LOD=5.6), and Egq6 (LOD=6.6). W10q15 peaks at 30.9 cM and the QTL interval spans 24.5 cM - 41.1 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W10q15 confer increased 10 week body weight with and additive or dominant mode of inheritance. This locus explains 3.1% of the variance. Egaq3 peaks at 33.7 cM and the QTL interval spans 23.9 cM - 44.6 cM. M16i-derived alleles at Egaq3 confer increased early growth adjusted for 6 week body weight with a recessive or additive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 2.5% of the variance. W6q12 peaks at 35.1 cM and the QTL interval spans 23.9 cM- 43.1 cM. M16i-derived alleles at W6q12 confer increased body weight at 6 weeks of age with a recessive or additive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 3.8% of the variance. Egq6 peaks at 35.1 cM and the QTL interval spans 23.9 cM - 41.6 cM. M16i-derived alleles at Egq6 confer increased early growth with a recessive or additive mode of inheritance. This locus explains 4.7% of the variance.
