Notes |
This was one of four transgenic lines created in the hemolytic complement-deficient strain FVB/NJ: Tg(Hc)244Ukb, Tg(Hc)368Ukb, Tg(Hc)388Ukb and Tg(Hc)392Ukb. No distinction was made among them by the authors.
Transgenic mice had serum hemolytic complement (C5) activity 75-84% that of hemolytic complement-positive BALB/cJ mice; no activity was present in serum of nontransgenic littermates. Following 6 weeks' challenge with carbon tetrachloride, transgenic mice exhibited more advanced hepatic fibrosis (stage 2.0 +/- 0.10 vs. 1.46 +/- 0.14) and greater liver collagen concentration (352 +/- 12 vs. 227 +/- 10 ug/g liver) than did control littermates. |
