Mutation details: The first exon and the splicing signal at the first exon-intron junction have been replaced by a loxP-flanked Pgk-neo cassette. No whey acidic protein mRNA or protein is detectable by northern or western blot analysis, respectively, in the mammary glands or milk on day 1 of lactation of dams homozygous for the targeted allele, nor is the protein detected in their secretory alveoli by immunohistochemical analysis. Expression in heterozygous dams does not differ significantly from that in wild-type mothers.
