Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:10558

Linkage analysis was performed on a series of 12 CXS (C=BALB/cHeA; S=STS/A) recombinant inbred (RI) strains to identify loci associated with resistance to radiation-induced lymphomas. Parental strain BALB/cHeA is highly susceptible (77% lymphoma incidence) whereas parental strain STS/A is highly resistant (8% lymphoma incidence). Animals were treated with 4 doses of 1.7 Gy X-rays at weekly intervals starting at 4 weeks of age. Animals were followed up to 365 after the last radiation treatment. 80 polymorphic markers were used for the genetic analysis.

Resistance to radiation-induced lymphomas mapped to a region on mouse Chromosome 4 between Tyrp1 (38 cM) and Ifna (42.6 cM). This locus is named Lyr (lymphoma resistance.) BALB/cHeA-derived alleles at Lyr is associated with resistance to radiation-induced lymphomas.
