Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:4417

Ri1 (recognition of identity 1), a locus associated with mate identification and preference in females, is thought to exist in the H2 region of mouse Chromosome 17. Experiments with C57BL/6 and B6.A-H2-T18a/BoyEgJ congenic animals showed that C57BL/6 males preferred to mate with C57BL/6 females and B6.A-H2-T18a/BoyEgJ males preferred to mate with B6.A-H2-T18a/BoyEgJ females. The B6.A-H2-T18a/BoyEgJ congenic carries A/J-derived DNA at the H2-T18 locus on a C57BL/6 genetic background. Ri1 is thought to be located near H2-T18 (19.78 cM). A male-specific mate preference locus named Ri2 is thought to be located elsewhere in the H2 region.

Evidence supporting the existence of Ri1 (recognition and identity 1) on mouse Chromosome 17 is given in the following experiments. Trained mice were able to distinguish between the urines of C57BL/6 and B6.A-H2-T18a/BoyEgJ congenic animals indicating that a genetic scent determinant named Ri1 is located near H2-T18 (19.78 cM). In addition, trained mice were able to distinguish between the urines of C57BL/10 and various B10.A congenics differing at the H2-K locus, indicating the presence of one or more genetic determinants near the H2-K region (18.65 cM).
