Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:28150Rmp1 (resistance to mousepox 1) is a locus on distal mouse Chromosome 6 near Prh1 (63.6 cM; formerly Prp) conferring susceptibility to ectromelia virus. Rmp1 was provisionally mapped in a series of 25 recombinant inbred strains derived from C57BL/6J and DBA/2J. Inbred strain DBA/2J is highly susceptible to infection with ectromelia virus whereas inbred strain C57BL/6J is resistant. 101 male animals from a (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J)F1 x DBA/2J backcross were challenged with 105 PFU of Moscow strain ectromelia virus, and of these animals 18 died and 83 survived. All 18 animals that died were homozygous for DBA/2J-derived alleles at Prh1. The experiment was repeated in a population of 42 castrated male (C57BL/6J x DBA/2J)F1 x DBA/2J animals with similar results. All susceptible animals were homozygous for DBA/2J-derived alleles on chromosome 6 from 51 cM - 63 cM, a region that includes the Klrb1c (62.1 cM) locus. Both experiments support the hypothesis that a locus associated with ecromelia virus susceptibility named Rmp1 is located near Prh1 at 63.6 cM. A previously identified cytomegalovirus susceptibility locus named Klra8 (62.69 cM; formerly Cmv1) maps near Rmp1. |
