Mutation details: Crossing mice bearing Gja1tm6(Gjb3)Kwi with mice expressing Cre recombinase in the germline resulted in excision of the coding region of Gja1, placing that of Gja3, which had been inserted between the Gja1 termination codon and its downstream DNA, under control of the Gja1 regulatory sequences. Immunoblot analysis demonstrates the absence of GJA1 protein and the presence of GJA3 protein, at dosage dependent levels, in lysates of heart and brain from mice bearing this allele.
