• Mutation details: This allele does not express enzyme. In homozygotes mRNA molecules are aberrantly large, and code for a 77 kDa product rather than the normal 58 kDa enzyme. The extra polypeptide may make the protein product dysfunctional or render it unstable. The gene contains an internally duplicated segment within the gene encompassing exons 10-13, resulting in aberrant mRNA producing an unstable protein variant that does not accumulate in the cytoplasm to significant levels.
