Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:117547

Genetic loci associated with body composition were mapped using 369 animals from a (C57BL/6J x CASA/Rk)F2 intercross. A panel of 255 polymorphic markers at an average spacing of 5.9 cM was used for genome scan. Parental strain C57BL/6J displays decreasedactivity and increased weight, lean tissue mass, abdominal fat mass, body length, bone mineral density (BMD), bone area, and bone mineral content (BMC) compared to parental strain CASA/Rk. Males from C57BL/6J display increased body mass index (BMI) and total body fat tissue mass (FTM) compared to males from CASA/Rk.

Linkage to total body fat tissue mass, named Ftm3, mapped to 15 cM on mouse Chromosome 15 with LOD=3.92. Ftm4 is linked to total body fat tissue mass in males with LOD=3.79 at 22 cM. Bone mineral density mapped to 45 cM (Bmd31, LOD=8.03) in both sexes, 61 cM (Bmd35, LOD=3.99) in males, and 43 cM (Bmd37, LOD=5.68 near D15Mit2) in females. Homozygosity for CASA/Rk-derived alleles at Bmd37 confers decreased bone mineral density in females. Bonemineral content mapped to 43 cM (Bmc6, LOD=6.12) in both sexes and mapped to 47 cM (Bmc11, LOD=4.35)in females.
