Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:118211

CCS (chromosome substitution strains) were used to identify 2 seizure QTLs as being significantly associated with 2 mouse Chromosomes. CCS and parental mice were tested for susceptibility to pilocarpine-induced seizures at 10-12 weeks of age and observed for 3 hours. The CCS strains used were derived from A/J (donor) and C57BL/6J (background/recipient) inbred strains. The chromosome Y CSS line was not examined.

A total of 355 male CCS mice and 58 A/J and C57BL/6J mice were used. Five stages of limbic seizures were identified by the authors and were described in Table 1 of the reference. Stages 2 to 5 showed a significant difference between parental strains with a significant contribution from both mouse Chromosomes 10 and 18. Latency to seizures stages was also significantly shorter in CSS 10 and 18. Pis1 and Pis2 are the QTL shown segregating with chromosomes 10 and 18 respectively. Previously identified seizure QTLs mapping to chromosomes 10 and 18 include Exq1 (67.5 cM, chr10), Sicd1 (57 cM, chr18), and Szs4 (50 cM, chr18).
