Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markersJ:124156Four hundred twenty-eight male animals from 53 interspecific recombinant congenic strains (IRCS) were used to map genetic loci associated with sperm phenotypes. The IRCSs were derived from progenitor strains C57BL/6J and SEG/Pas. Experimental male animals were age 8-9 week at time of phenotyping and were never exposed to females. A panel of 180 microsatellite markers and 673 SNPs was used for genotyping. Four QTLs affecting sperm head shape were identified. SEG/Pas-derived alleles are associated with abnormal sperm shape at these loci. Sh1 (sperm hammerhead 1) mapped to an interval on mouse Chromosome 6 between 137 Mb - 146 Mb. Capza3 (66.5 cM) and Tuba3b are two potential candidate genes found in the Sh1 interval. Sh2 (sperm hammerhead 2) mapped to an interval on mouse Chromosome 3 between 144.17 Mb - 146.94 Mb with Spata1 as a potential candidate gene. Sh3 mapped to mouse Chromosome 12 between 106.3 Mb - 120.5 Mb and Sh4 mapped to mouse Chromosome 11 between 3.5 Mb - 26.5 Mb. Low testis weight, Ltsw1 and Ltsw2, mapped to mouse Chromosome 11 (3.5 Mb - 26.5 Mb) and mouse Chromosome 6 (133.3 Mb - 149.5 Mb), respectively. SEG/Pas-derived alleles at Ltsw1 and Ltsw2 are associated with deceased testis weight. High prostate weight mapped to distal mouse Chromosome 19 between 43 Mb and the telomere. This locus is named Hpw1 (high prostate weight 1). SEG/Pas-derived alleles at Hpw1 are associated with high prostate weight. There are 187 genes in this interval. Mxi1 (49.5 cM) is a possible candidate.A QTLfor sperm viability mapped to mouse Chromosome 6 between 137.4 Mb - 149.5 Mb. This locus is named Dss1 (decreased sperm survival 1). SEG/Pas-derived alleles at Dss1 are associated with decreased sperm survival. There are 86 genes in this interval. |
