Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

Advanced intercross lines derived from LG/J and SM/J parental inbred strains at the F9 (n=150) and F10 (n=1305) generations were used to confirm and refine previously identified QTL (from F2-F3 generations) for long bone traits and identify novel geneticloci and interacting QTL. Animals were phenotyped between 12 and 40 weeks of age and genotyped at 1470 polymorphic SNP loci. The average distance between markers is 1.66 Mb. Long bone measurements were taken for the right-side tibia, femur, humerus and ulna. Eighty-one single-trait QTL were detected in this study, which includes 27 previously identified long bone loci. Thirteen novel pleiotropic loci were detected.

Lbn6 on mouse Chromosome 7 was refined into two separate single-trait QTL named Lbn6a (long bones 6a) and Lbn6b (long bones 6b). Lbn6a mapped to 37 cM near rs3686423 and is linked to femur length (LPR=6.02) in males. Lbn6b mapped to 11 cM near rs13479714 and is linked to ulna length (LPR=8.52).

QTLs for long bone length were mapped in F2 and F3 generations of an intercross of

LG/J and SM/J mice. LG/J mice were selected for large body size (~40 g) at 60 days and SM/J mice were selected for small body size (~20 g) at 60 days. There were 506 F2 Mice and 1605 F3 mice.
