Mutation details: This transgene contains a full length human cDNA encoding solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter), member 1 (SLC2A1; also called glucose transporter 1, GLUT1) between a modified human beta-actin promoter and the SV40 polyadenylation signal. Western blot analysis demonstrates 3.5-fold nomal levels of glomerular GLUT1 protein in 26 week old mice hemizygous for the transgene. Immunolabeling detects GLUT1 overexpression in glomerular mesagial cells and small vessels, but not in the renal tubules, of the kidney.
