Mutation
origin
Germline Transmission:  Earliest citation of germline transmission: J:213411
Parent Cell Line:  ART B6-3, B6-3 (ES Cell)
Strain of Origin:  C57BL/6NTac
Mutation
description
Allele Type:    Targeted
Mutations:    Insertion, Intragenic deletion

Mutation detailsThe 14.7 kb retrotransposon insertion in intron 1 of the a (nonagouti) allele, which functionally inactivates the gene, was replaced by a neomycin and puromycin resistance cassette flanked by frt sequences. The selection cassette was excised by flp recombinase, leaving a single frt site in the intron. (J:213411)
Inheritance:    Dominant

Carrying any a Mutation:  463 strains or lines available
Notes
Germline deletion of the frt-flanked selection cassette was achieved by crossing mice bearing the selection cassette (in place of the retrotransposon insertion) to C57BL/6NTac-Tg(CAG-flpe)2Arte "flp-deleter" mice. (J:213411)
