From Dr. Jessie Benedict: We acquired the mice from frozen embryos through Riken (RBRC10728). In our breeding colony the Gpr151-cre mice had low litter survival rates, often with only 2-3 pups making it to weaning. The pups that did make it to weaning were chronically small at weaning age (under 9g and thus unable to depress the water lixit on their own). In a small pilot experiment, our cre-negative control animals (n=3) showed depressed maternal behavior compared to wildtype C57BL/6 WT mice. Given the issues with pup survival and size in the colony, we suspect a maternal behavior deficit may have been more widespread in the line, or at least in the mice we had.
