Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:150364

TST (tail suspension) and FST (forces Swimming tests) are indicators of depression and have been used as proceedures in various QTL experiments, among the QTLs identified were Desp1 (despair 1)and Desp2 (despair 2)as mapped in Yoshikawa T et al., "Identification of multiple genetic loci linked to the propensity for 'behavioral despair' in mice." Genome Res 2002 Mar;12(3):357-66 . In this experiment the authors took advantage of the difference in immobility(despair) exhibited between CS and C57BL/6J miceto map the behavioral trait(Desp3) to mouse Chromosome 5. Congenic strains between Ce5BL/6J and CS ( B6.CS-Ngu2271 and B6.CS-Ngu3042) derived from the QTL region were informative to further map Desp3 to a short interval between D5Mit134 and D5Mit357.More specifically this region was between 74.31 and 74.82 Mbs bounded proximal by B5B6CS40 and B5B6CS103 a region that included Usp46 as a candidate gene. Further analysis showed that a 3-bp deletion in Usp46 was causative of the Desp3 phenotype in mouse Chromosome 5.
