Neither C57BL/6J nor C57BL/6J.Cast congenic mice undergo endocochlear potential (EP) reduction when exposed to noise whereas CBA/J and CBA/CaJ do. This difference allowed for the mapping of EP in 80 (C57BL/6J X CBA/J) X C57BL/6J backcross mice and in 26 C57BL/6J.CAST congenics. QTL Nirep mapped with Chromosome 18 locus c18.loc8 at 12.5 cM with a LOD 0f 3.57. Suggestive QTL were found in chromosome 5 and chromosome 16.
