Mapping and Phenotype information for this QTL, its variants and associated markers

J:44414

Inbred strains SJL and C3H/He are susceptible to Plasmodium chabaudi induced malaria where as C57BL/6 mice are resistant. Two crosses involving SJL, C3H/He and C57BL/6 revealed that quantitative trait locus controlling the response to Plasmodium chabaudi was associated significantly with mouse Chromosome 9. This locus, designated as Char1 has a maximum LOD score of 11.5 at D9Mit35.

1.19.2016 Curator Note: Authors refer to the QTL mapping to Chr 9 in both crosses as Char1. However, because two differing crosses were used we consider each a separate mapping experiment and have named the QTL identified on Chr 9 in the (SJL x C57BL/6)F2 cross as Char10, P. chabaudi malaria resistance QTL 10. Char1 remains associated with the (C3H/He x C57BL/6)F2 cross.

Char10 peaks at marker D9Mit12 on Chr 9, also with a LOD score of 11.5.

A second QTL was also identified in the (C3H/H x C57BL/6)F2 cross mapping to Chr 8.

The locus was labeled Char2, P. chabaudi malaria resistance QTL 2, peaking at marker D8Mit33 with a LOD score of 5.95.
