• very few zigzag hairs are found and those that are found have no medulla

• at 11 days of age the hair begins to thin around the eyes, top of the head, and nape of neck and by 21-25 days of age the dorsum becomes bald except for very fine stubble, yet hair remains on the snout, around the legs and tail and on the belly
• at 28 days of age the hair begins to re-grow on the dorsum and during successive hair cycles the dorsum is never devoid of hair
