N normal phenotype
craniofacial

digestive/alimentary system

growth/size/body

limbs/digits/tail
• extra digits on the hind feet
• appearance ranges from shortened and bent to spiraled

mortality/aging
• 81% of mutant females expected from heterozygous x hemizygous matings do not reach adulthood compared with wild-type littermates
• a proportion of deaths are due to cleft palate
• although genotypes could not be confirmed, resorption sites in carrier mothers occurred more frequently than expected for a normal pregnancy suggesting some mutants die during embryogenesis
