N normal phenotype
limbs/digits/tail
• during growth of the first coat, the scaly skin may form a number of rings on the tail, and the distal portion of the tail may become necrotic
• the distal portion of the tail may become necrotic

vision/eye
• the eyelashes may be shortened or reduced in number
• the eyelashes may be shortened or reduced in number
• the eyelids may become thicker, possibly due to shortening and reduction in the number of eyelashes

pigmentation
• after the second or more generations of the hair cycle, the black fur tone is modified into a silver tone

behavior/neurological
• mutant females are fertile but show an impaired ability to suckle their young

integument
• all four hair types are present, but appear histologically abnormal in all hair generations
• after the second or more generations of the hair cycle, the black fur tone is modified into a silver tone
• after loss of the first coat, hair regeneration displays an abnormal antero-posterior gradient, with gradual thinning of the coat in the anterior region while the coat in the posterior region of the body is still incomplete
• loss and regeneration of hair is repeated with approx. 10-day intervals throughout life, although a less regular pattern is observed in later generations
• mutants start shedding their first coat at 13 to 15 days after birth
• hair loss is usually complete within 20-24 days, except for some regions around the nose, toes, and tail, which retain a few hairs
• at 3-4 days after birth, the first coat is shorter than normal
• at 3-4 days after birth, the first coat is sparse
• at 3-4 days after birth, whiskers are shorter than normal
• short whiskers are also observed in adulthood
• after loss of the first coat, the skin appears soft, smooth, and pinkish, until the next coat beging to grow
• during growth of the first coat the skin appears dry
• during growth of the first coat the skin appears scaly
• in severe cases, these scales form rigid plates all over the body, placing the animal's life at risk
