phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• less than 40% survive to weaning
• 60% of presumptive homozygotes die by weaning

limbs/digits/tail
• seen at birth
• digits of hindlimbs twist laterally with pads facing inward
• severe on hind feet; less obvious on front feet
• shortening of phalanges is so extreme only the nails define position of the toes
• soft tissue fusions involve digits 2 and 3, sometimes 4
• metatarsals of hindlimbs twist outward more severely than in the heterozygote
• on hindlimbs
• function of proximal joints is lost resulting in little or no flexing ability
• in regions where the tail kinks
• seen at birth
• dorsal and upward kinking and a hook forms near the tail tip

skeleton
• shortening of phalanges is so extreme only the nails define position of the toes
• metatarsals of hindlimbs twist outward more severely than in the heterozygote
• on hindlimbs
• function of proximal joints is lost resulting in little or no flexing ability
• function of proximal joints of metatarsals of hindlimbs is lost resulting in little or no flexing ability
• in regions where the tail kinks

reproductive system

integument
• severe on hind feet; less obvious on front feet
• nails overgrow and twist, more obviosu than in the heterozygote
