• structures (nails, digits) normally restricted to distal limb also develop proximoventrally
• AER is thinner than in wild-type and extends ventrally and proximally
• by 6 weeks, proximal pads develop nail-pad hybrid structures and at 3 months, on distal limbs, pad/nail hybrid structures associated with the metatarsal pads are observed

• a few weeks after birth, ventral nails form opposite dorsal nails; in 3-month old animals, closely juxtaposed ventral and dorsal nails (cylindrical nails) are observed on the distal limbs
