reproductive system
• at 3 months of age the diameter of the seminiferous tubules is shorter than in controls, the lumen of the tubules are absent, and the tubules consist of predominantly Sertoli cells with occasional spermatogonia
• tubulin staining of testes cross sections shows diffuse expression of microtubules with little evidence for organization into bundles, and there is extracellular vacuolization, which is more severe in these homozygotes than in mshi homozygotes or compound heterozygotes, indicative of more advanced tubule degeneration
• homozygotes have much smaller testes, on average 70mg where heterozygous controls have an average testes weight of 250mg
• although males copulate and cause vaginal plugs, they fail to impregnate females
