growth/size/body
• male homozygotes weigh slightly, but significantly, less than wild-type controls

homeostasis/metabolism
• homozygotes display increased insulin secretion in association with increased levels of intact, biologically active GLP-1
• in oral glucose tolerance tests, male homozygotes exhibit significantly higher plasma levels of intact, biologically active glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) than wild-type controls at 15 min after glucose challenge
• however, no significant differences are observed between wild-type and mutant mice in fasting levels of GLP-1
• in oral glucose tolerance tests, male homozygotes exhibit significantly higher plasma insulin levels than wild-type controls at 15 min after glucose challenge
• however, no significant differences are observed between wild-type and mutant mice in fasting levels of insulin
• in oral glucose tolerance tests, both male and female homozygotes exhibit significantly lower plasma glucose levels than wild-type mice at 15, 30 and 60 min after glucose challenge, indicating enhanced glucose clearance
• oral administration of valine-pyrrolidide (a specific pharmacological inhibitor of dipeptidylpeptidase 4 enzymatic activity) at 30 min before glucose challenge improves glucose tolerance in wild-type, but not in homozygous mutant mice
• no significant differences are observed between wild-type and mutant mice in fasting levels of glucose

endocrine/exocrine glands
• homozygotes display increased insulin secretion in association with increased levels of intact, biologically active GLP-1
