behavior/neurological
• homozygotes display no significant differences in acute clearance of ethanol relative to wild-type mice, indicating normal alcohol metabolism
• however, male homozygotes exhibit attenuated ethanol withdrawal-induced seizures, as shown by a significant reduction in handling-induced convulsion scores during acute ethanol withdrawal
• homozygotes do not display motor/vestibular abnormalities; however, they do exhibit reduced horizontal and vertical exploratory behavior in the open field test
• when given ad libitum access to caffeine (0.3 g/l) and water in a two-bottle paradigm for 12 consecutive days, male homozygotes drink more water and less caffeinated solution than wild-type males, indicating a reduced appetite for caffeine
• when placed in the same cage, male homozygotes bite each other more frequently than wild-type controls
• resident male homozygotes are much more aggressive towards intruders than wild-type controls; no differences are observed among females
• homozygotes display increased anxiety, spending more time in the closed arms of the elevated plus-maze and in the black compartment of the two-compartment test
• homozygotes fail to exhibit locomotor stimulation in response to caffeine which normally stimulates exploratory behavior
• homozygotes display hypoalgesia in response to acute thermal stimuli
• in the hot-plate test, homozygotes exhibit significantly prolonged latencies for rearing and escape jumping, whereas licking latency remains unaffected
• in the tail-flick test, homozygotes show a 2-fold increase in mean latency relative to wild-type mice

cardiovascular system
• in response to A2a-selective agonist CGS 21680, homozygotes fail to exhibit the immediate hypotensive and tachycardic responses observed in wild-type mice
• homozygotes anesthetized by carotid artery catheterization exhibit a significant increase in basal mean heart rate relative to wild-type mice
• homozygotes anesthetized by carotid artery catheterization exhibit a significant increase in basal mean blood pressure relative to wild-type mice

hematopoietic system
• homozygotes display increased platelet aggregation

homeostasis/metabolism
• homozygotes display increased platelet aggregation

growth/size/body
• at 3 months or older, homozygotes of both sexes exhibit a significantly increased body mass relative to wild-type mice
