immune system
N
• mice exposed to anthrax lethal toxin exhibit normal development of disease
• mice show no footpad swelling after antigen challenge following sensitization with 0.1% TNCB, which generates maximal swelling in wild-type controls
• sensitization with 1% of TNCB is needed to generate the maximal response in mutant mice
• T cells isolated from draining lymph nodes fail to proliferate the TCNB to the same degree as T cells isolated from wild-type mice
• IL-1beta is not produced in these mice
• mice succumb to 108 CFU Salmonella infection more rapidly than controls
• there is an average 10-fold-higher bacterial loads in infected Peyer's patches, mesenteric lymph nodes, and spleens than in the infected organs of wild-type animals

homeostasis/metabolism
• cuprizone insult leads to increases in IGF-1 in the corpus callosum of wild-type mice that aids in the process of axon remyelination
• in contrast, mutant mice fail to produce IGF-1 in the corpus callosum after cuprizone insult

nervous system
• mice have defects in the regeneration of the mature oligodendrocyte population after a demyelinating insult
• after cuprizone insult, the number of oligodendrocytes present is significantly less than controls both 7 and 10 weeks after cuprizone withdrawal
• instead there is an increase oligodendrocyte precursors
• mice treated with cuprizone to cause demyelination have defects in remyelination
• only 45% of axons are remyelinated 4 weeks after cuprizone removal compared to 67.1% in controls
